Stories created from courage, hope, and new beginnings

My name is Azar Azamy, and I am the author and founder behind Nordlige Eventyr in Tromsø.

I grew up in Afghanistan, in a reality where education and access to books could not always be taken for granted. Nevertheless, my love for language, literature, and storytelling has always stayed with me. For me, stories have been more than entertainment – they have given me hope, strength, and the ability to see the world from new perspectives.

A new beginning in Norway

When I arrived in Norway in 2021, I had to start anew. I had to find my place in a new country, learn a new language, and understand a new culture, all while taking care of my family and trying to build a future.

The journey has not been easy. I have faced adversity, uncertainty, and many obstacles along the way. Several times, my plans have taken a different turn than I had hoped. Nevertheless, I have persevered – one small step at a time.

I did not want the difficulties to dictate how my story would end. Instead, I began to use my experiences to create something meaningful.

How Nordlige Eventyr came to be

As a mother, immigrant, and storyteller, I have seen how naturally children approach the world with openness and curiosity. Children don't first ask where someone comes from. They look for someone to play with, share with, and get to know.

This inspired me to create Nordlige Eventyr – a book universe with warm stories about friendship, belonging, respect, culture, and life in Northern Norway.

I want to create books where children can see themselves reflected, but also get to know people and experiences that are different from their own. The stories should entertain, spark wonder, and open up good conversations between children and adults.

When the dream came true

The first book, Eventyr i barnehagen (Adventures in Kindergarten), came about after a long period of hard work, learning, and many small and large challenges. I worked on the story step by step and refused to give up the dream of holding my own book in my hands.

In 2026, Nordlige Eventyr received support from Thonings legat (Thoning's Legacy). The support made it possible to take the project further, and in the same year, Eventyr i barnehagen was published.

Seeing the finished book for the first time was more than just seeing a product. It was proof that a new beginning can emerge, even when the path to it is long and difficult.

The story continues

Today, I am continuing my studies through Nettskolen Troms, with a long-term goal of pursuing a writing program at UiT. At the same time, I continue to write and develop new stories for children.

Nordlige Eventyr is therefore more than a book project for me. It is the result of a journey through adversity, hope, and new opportunities – and the belief that stories can bring people closer together.

This is just the beginning.
